Ernest Hemingway :: essays research papers

"A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" was published by Scribners Magazine in March of 1933, but it was not until 1956 that an unmixed disagreement in the servers dialogue was brought to Hemingways attention. Hemingways thirteen word reply to Judson Jerome, an Assistant Professor of English at Antioch College, said that he had read the story again and it pacify made perfect sense to him. Despite this letter, Scribners republished "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" in 1965 with a slight change in the waiters dialogue that they argued would fix the apparent anomaly. Scribners decision to alter the original text, the letter Hemingway wrote to Professor Jerome, and several papers on the subject all add up to a literary enmity that still churns among Hemingway scholars. I will argue that the original text is the determine text and Scribners just failed to interpret it properly. They failed to notice nuances in Hemingways writing that appear end-to-end many of his other works. The y obviously thought Hemingways reply to Professor Jerome was made without notice of the inconsistency. Most important, I believe they did not evaluate the guinea pig of the dickens waiters in "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place." A careful examination of the character of each waiter can make it apparent that the original text was correct and that there was no need for Scribners to alter the text. The dialogue in question results from a conversation the two waiters have concerning the old mans attempted suicide. One waiter asks "Who cut him down?", to which the other waiter replies "His niece." Later in the story, the original text appears to confuse who possesses the k todayledge about the suicide. The waiter who previously said "His niece", now says "I Know. You said she cut him down." This seems to assume the knowledge about the attempted suicide has either passed from one waiter to another, or that we have incorrectly attributed the offshoot exc hange to the wrong waiters. So which waiter asked about cutting down the old man? When the disputed dialogue between the two waiters takes place, we do not know enough about them to develop an outline of character. As the story progresses, the character of the two waiters emerges through their dialogue and thoughts, as does many of Hemingways characters. Once the character of each waiter is developed and understood, the dialogue makes more sense when the story is read again.

Essay About Family: Made in U.S.A. :: Personal Narrative essay about my family

Made in U.S.A. My military childhood has somewhat distorted my view of home my father was in the United States maritime Corps for 30 years. Traditionally, this length of time requires some moving about the countryas was the case with my family. Perhaps some may consider the organise that they grow lived all or most of their life, as home, or where their parents or grandparents reside. I have yet to define my home. I realize that home is where your nerve is, so for me home is wherever a portion of my family dwells simultaneously. To an extent, I accept Starke, Florida because that is where my parents and sister live. However, it just doesnt seem correct to include Starke without including Daytona or battle of Atlanta without Milwaukee or Albany without San Diego. Now dont get me wrong I would not trade the Marine brat lifestyle for anything in the orb because I cant be in any location for too long and I love meeting new people. Since I have been at The Florida State University, I have seed across a lot of the people that I went to school with in the past. Most of these students have come from Atlanta and Daytona. If you were to talk to either of these individuals, they will tell you that I am from whatever city we met in. For example, my friend Letitia went to middle school with me in Daytona. I see her boyfriend at a party one night and he was like Hey You are Tias friend Tasha from Daytona right? Of course, I had to harbor with him, although, he was not entirely incorrect. So, what would be your answer to this question if you were in my situation Where are you from? Well, I have had several suggestions in this regard, too. At the get of each semester, organizations tend to weasel their way back to those lame icebreakers, some of which require you to state your hometown along with your year, major, etc.

a prayer fo owen meany :: essays research papers

A Critique of A Prayer For Owen MeanyIn the novel written by lavatory Irving, A Prayer For Owen Meany, the protagonist, Owen Meany, developed an quaint religious significance. Owen experienced visions of future events, he had a unique type of faith in God that is unusual of most people, and he speaks endlessly to inform people about God. Throughout Owens life he demonstrated the same characteristics as a vaticinator by means of his actions and his words.Similar to a prophet, Owen was given precognitive powers that allowed him to see into the future. Owens first vaticination came to him on New Years Eve in 1953 during the friendship production of A Christmas Carol. The most obvious inference concerning the play was that Owen played the part of the ghost of Christmas yet to come. Owen had dehumanized this character to the point that children were divergence the theater crying and some were even wetting their pants. Both of them were told their futures, however Scrooge made and effort to change his, where as Owen did not. Owens revelation came through a vision he experienced during the graveyard scene of the play. He immediately fainted following the vision. The curtains went down, and members of the production all ran to help Owen. Owen believed he had seen his name on a gravestone along with the date of his death and no one could convince him otherwise. The fact that he was correct about the date of his death affirm that he had visions and confirmed his qualities of being a prophet.A prophet uses his visions to not only prove they have powers, but also to benefit others. The second prophecy came to Owen in his dreams when he envisioned the reason and the way Schaefer 2his life would end. Owen wrote his dream in his diary. No one realized how detailed and precise it in truth was until they read it for themselves. Owen stated in his diary, The way they look at me, I know two things. I know I saved them-I dont know how. And I know that theyre afraid for me. The entries in his diary revealed that he died saving Vietnamese children. God died for others too this is why he is considered a true hero. (Sebsteph 1) A prophet uses their prophecies to benefit the world or allow people to learn from their visions and this is a prime example of this.

Once Macbeth is crowned king of Scotland he thinks about the people who would confuse the close set(predicate) idea that he was responsible for the murder of Duncan, he then realises the closest person would be Banquo who was there when the witches told the prophecies to Macbeth, and although Macbeth is unsure Banquo is already starting to suspect him of the murder. Days later Macbeth finds out that Banquo and Fleance are going hunting the next day, he firstly arranges a feast in honour of Banquo the day they go hunting to clear his name for any wrong doing, then he hires cardinal assassins to kill Banquo and his son while they are hunting, but first he has to talk Lady Macbeth into it, he does so by scarring her, saying we will eat our meals in fear and sleep in the affliction of the of these terrible dreams. Worst Sinner in the Scarlet Letter

People are not always what they seem to be. Roger Chillingworth in The Scarlet Letter shows that everyone sins but some races sins are worse than others. The Scarlet Letter shows Chillingworths sins throughout the book. One of Hawthornes intentions was having Chillingworth as the worst sinner, because he used his herbs to keep Dimmesdale a spicy-he lengthened Dimmesdales torture, he used black medicine, and when Dimmesdale stopped taking the herbs, he passed away. Roger Chillingworth came to town with the Indians, and Hawthorne expound them as outcasts and dwellers of the forest.Roger had learned all his tricks and medicines from the Indians and therefore was adapted-bodied to prolong Dimmesdales torture through using herbs. Chillingworth says, Dont think that I will lay a finger on him and throw in with Heavens work of punishment let him live. Chillingworth neer physically laid a hand on Dimmesdale, but he kept him healthful using the herbs to make sure that Dimmesdale would put on the torture of his affair, mentally and physically. Chillingworth knew exactly what he was doing to Dimmesdale. He said it would have been better had he died right away than endure seven years of vengeance. Here Roger is admitting that he has spent the last seven years using his herbs to keep Dimmesdale alive because death would be too easy. Roger Chillingworth was described as giving black medicine to Dimmesdale. Him using this was a way to punish Dimmesdale for wronging him. The term black medicine is in correlation with the call on the carpet, as if Chillingworth is playacting as Satan to get back at Dimmesdale. While talking with Dimmesdale he says, Wherefore not since all the powers of nature call so earnestly for the justification of sin, that these black weeds have sprung up out of a buried heart, to make manifest an unspoken crime? Here, Chillingworth is expressing his use of the black medicine. What he is using are weeds he found at the cemetery, and he is explai ning them as natures punishment for people who have committed hidden crimes. Chillingworth is hinting that the medicine he is giving Dimmesdale is natures way of making sure Dimmesdale is getting the punishment he deserves.Rogers sin here is that he is one with the devil and carrying out actions only the devil would use through the black medicine. Once he stopped partaking the herbs given by Chillingworth, unfortunately, Dimmesdale died. This is proof Chillingworth used the herbs to standpoint Dimmesdales untimely death. At their home, Chillingworth offered Dimmesdale medicine. But methinks, dear Sir, you look pale as if the travel through the wilderness had been too sore for you. Will not my aid be requisite to put you in heart and strength to preach your Election Sermon? Dimmesdale passed on the medicine, knowing Chillingworths intentions. Chillingworth was described as being a leech and feed off of Dimmesdales pain, but when he collapsed and died on the scaffold the next day, he had nothing left to live for and died soon after. It is not a coincidence that Dimmesdale died so soon after being clean of herbs. Death was not a part of Chillingworths plan, and Dimmesdale was able to escape Chillingworths torture by stopping his medications and dying. Roger Chillingworth is the worst sinner in The Scarlet Letter. He prolonged Dimmesdales torture through herbs and was one with the devil. Roger Chillingworth never laid a hand on Dimmesdale throughout the book but he mentally got to him over the seven years. The herbs kept Dimmesdale alive just so Roger could get his revenge through the torture. When Dimmesdale passed away after stopping the herbs Roger Chillingworth had nothing left to live for, and died shortly after, because as the leech, he no seven-day had anything to feed off of. Roger Chillingworth was not always the man that he seemed, he had something deeper in him and was the worst sinner.

Gibson Kente Essay

Gibson Kente Arguably the most popular playwright- cypheror in South African Theatre hi yarn is Bra Gib, Gibson Kente. innate(p) in 1932, Kente became the father of inkiness Theatre. He was a great patriot and founding father of Black Theatre in South an effective enunciate of the oppressed though the arts, he articulated the socio-economic imbalances created by the apartheid regime. Kente was not only an artist but also a vehicle for change. He conscientised the nation by means of music and theatre and gave a nation confidence in the midst of repression and brutality.Kente was largely unknown to the white theatre-going population of South Africa however he produced 23 plays and many TV dramas from 1963-1992. Kente grew up in Duncan Village, a black village in the Eastern Cape. He was schooled at a Seventh-Day Adventist College in Butterworth. In 1956, he moved to Johannesburg and enrolled at the Jan Hofmeyer School of Social Work. He eventually a anchor ringoned his studies afte r he joined a black theatre group called the union Artists. This is where he embarked on his career writing, producing and directing, where he created the unique genre referred to as the town musical. Kente developed a style and pattern for his plays specifically to deal with the challenges and demand of his audiences. His plays were melodramas of township life, which were performed in an over-the-top, stylized manner using depot characters and a declamatory style of performance. His style of directing his actors to overact was in order to repay for many of the townships venues which had poor acoustics. His use of music, movement, gesture, gimmicks, dance and acrobatics were directly related to his problem with township venues. These large halls were not complimentary to any type of order acting. The movements had to be unnaturalistic, the acting was vigorous and exaggerated well beyond reality, in order to have an impact on the eye and the ear. There was also a devaluing of di alogue the dialogue is in English, however, most of it was inaudible because of audience noise and interaction, bad voice projection in the acoustically unsound halls, the musical band and unfamiliarity with words from the script. The audiences were not there to appreciate the subtlety of language through the use of puns or witticisms they were there to be entertained through the stock characters antics to recognize themselves on stage. Kentes aim was to fill township venues and he did. The majority of his plays are stylistically similar the acting style hardly varies, the story development is superficial, there is an absence of conflict other than the physical fights and the slanging matches between characters. The plots were simple they were made up of occurrences which were happening in the townships and in daily township life. Ian Steadman writes in his article Alternative Politics, Alternative Performance 1976 and Black South African Theatre that while he Kente has been criti cised by more radical Black Consciousness proponents for being a-political, Kentes theatre succeeds in creating social comment and criticism sometimes by implication, at other times by direct proseltism (1984 219).

As a technology based company, you are only as just as your next big idea. Page encourages his employees to think of crazy ideas and cultivate the best of them. When no one else is crazy enough to do it, you have puny competition, he says. (Elmer, 2011).Investor ProfileThe client is a young investor. She is interested in seeing her mo ney grow over 10 15 years. She is a multi-millionaire and has the require to be anaggressive investor. She wants to accumulate a substantial amount of wealth in the future and is open to investing in a start- up company. though the company has been around for approximately 16 years, Google is run like a start-up company and is relatively young compared to some of its competitors (i.e. Microsoft and Apple). The company is always trying to create itself with a diverse portfolio of products and services. They spend a lot of money on research and development to cultivate innovation and improve their products already on the market. Google does not pay stockpileholders dividends. It uses the dividend money for R&D, data centers, legal issues and diversification (Rosoff, 2012). Since the client is not interested in an instant money baffler and can pay fluctuations in the market, Google may be a good fit for her to invest in.Financial DataThe financial advisor must use a number of ra tios to determine the financial health of the company. Five ratios what will be used are current ratios, quick ratio, earnings per share, price earnings ratio, and debt to equity ratio.Current RatiosCurrent ratios give the investor the opportunity to see the companys ability to pay back its short-term liabilities with its short-term assets (Current Ratios, n.d.). The higher the current ratio, the more up to(p) the company is to pay back its debts which would be great for a bank lender. But a high current ratio could also mean the company has a lot tied up in nonproductive assets (Brigham & Ehrhardt, p. 99, 2014). Current ratios are determined by dividing totality assets by total liabilities (Brigham & Ehrhardt).20112012201352,758 / 8,913 = 5.960,454 / 14,337 = 4.272,886 / 15,908 = 4.6Companies generally get under ones skin for a ratio of 1 to ensure their current assets can at least cover the short term obligations. Having a ratio greater than 1 gives the company a better contin gency to be able to cover those obligations. The company started out with a high current ratio of 5.9 in 2011. This means, in 2011, the company was able to cover 5.9 times their short term obligations. It dropped down to 4.2 in 2012, but rose by .4points in 2013. The drastic fluctuation may be due to the acquisition of Motorola Mobile in 2011 (Goldman, 2012). Both current assets and current liabilities would increase due to the increase of inventory and debt. The technology industriousness medium current ratio is 2.33 (Reuters, n.d.). For all three years, the current ratio is almost twice the manufactures amount. Due to the high current ratio, the company is not at risk of bankruptcy.Quick RatiosQuick ratios tell the investor what the companys liquidity position is or how quickly it can be converted to immediate payment at the going market price (Brigham & Ehrhardt). To cipher quick ratios the formula is current assets minus inventories divided by current liabilities. 20112012 201352,758 35 /8,913 = 5.960,454 505 / 14,337 = 4.272,886 426 /15,908 = 4.6As of 2013, the current technology perseverance quick ratio average is 1.26 (Technology Sector, 2014). The past three years has been higher than the industry average. The higher the quick ratio in equivalence to the industry average shows that the company is less likely to be overwhelmed by debt in the near future. A higher ratio is safer than a lower one because it means the company has excess cash. This is a favorable consideration for an investor. Prior to 2011, Google, Inc. did not have any inventories listed on their balance sheets. Google started as a search engine in 1998 and have provided technology services that did not require inventory. In 2011, Google acquired Motorola Mobility, taking it from a strictly software company to a software and hardware company (Goldman, 2012). This puts Google in direct competition with technology companies such as Apple, Inc. and Microsoft, Corp. In partnership wi th HTC and Samsung, Google has created their line of Nexus smartphones and tablets. They also have Google Glass that is expected to launch for consumer purchase by the end of 2014 as well as the Google Smart Watch. Other items Google is working on for the near future are the self-driving car, Project Loom, and Google Home Automation.Total Assets Turnover RatioTotal assets turnover ratio determines how productive the company is. It shows how much revenue the company generates for each dollar in assets.Total assets turnover ratio is calculated by dividing total revenue from the income statement by total assets from the balance statement. 20112012201337,905 / 72,574 = 0.5250,175 / 93,798 = 0.5359,825 / 110,920 = 0.54The average turnover ratio for Google is 0.53. This means for both dollar worth in assets, the company generates 53 cents in revenue. Some companies have less assets than others, in which the total assets turnover ratio will be lower than a more assets-intensive company. G oogle is primarily a service related company, so it has less assets than the majority of its competitors who fetch a vast number of products. Some of Googles most popular products are the Google search engine, Google+, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Play Store, Android software, and YouTube. The company does not require as many physical assets. The technology industry total assets turnover ratio is 1.07 (Reuters, n.d.). Though Googles ratio is lower than the industry average, it is not necessarily a bad matter considering most technology based companies sell a physical product and Google mainly sells services, thus less assets than its competitors.Debt to EquityDebt to equity ratio is a supplement ratio which explains how much of the companys assets are financed by debt and stockholders equity. The debt to equity ratio is calculated by dividing the total debt by the total common equity. The total debt is determined by adding current liabilities with long term debt.20112012201314,429 / 58,145 = .2522,083 / 71,715 = .3123,611 / 87,309 = .27 From the three years, the average debt to equity ratio is .28. This ratio translates that Google has 28 cents of debt for every dollar of equity. The technology industry average is 31 cents. The lower number is more favorable because it shows that the company is less risky. The lower numbers indicate that the company relies on less out-of-door lenders than other companies. In 2012, the ratio increased by .06.In May 2012, Google, Inc. completed its acquisition of Motorola Mobility in which it acquired the companys debts as well as its assets. The following year, Google may have paid some of the debt. Stockholders equity increased by having a significant increase in retained earnings. Retained earnings are part of the net income that goes back intothe company instead of the company distributing dividends to the stockholders (Brigham & Ehrhardt, p. 1114, 2014).Net Profit MarginNet cyberspace margin measures a companys profitab ility. The net profit margin is calculated by dividing the net income by sales. This ratio can determine if a company earns enough money to cover its operating costs. If it does not, the company could eventually shut down which would make it a bad investment. 2011201220139,737 / 37,905 = .2610,737 / 50,175 = .2112,920 / 59,825 = .22 Based on the past three years, Googles profit margin dropped by 5% between 2011 and 2012. It slightly increased by 1% between 2012 and 2013. In all three years, the profit margins were higher than the technology industry averages for those years. In 2011, the industry average was 19% in 2012, the industry average was 16% and in 2013, the industry average was 19% (Profitability Analysis, 2014). If the companys net profit margin is higher than the industrys profit margin, it is a good investment.Company Risk LevelBased on the financial analysis for Google, the company has a low risk level based on the industrys averages. The current ratio average for the t echnology industry is 2.33. Googles average is 4.9. This means that the company has a contingency to be able to take care of their short-term obligations over twice the industry average. The industry average for quick ratios is 1.26. Googles quick ratio average over the past 3 years is 4.9. This shows that the company is least likely to be overwhelmed by debt in the future compared to its competitors. The average turnover ratio for Google is .53 indicating that for every dollar the company has in assets, it generates 53 cents. This is a low number mainly because the company has a low amount of assets unlike its competitors. Google is mainly a service company and does not have a vast number of assets like its competitors that produce products such as tablets, phones, computers, etc.The technology industrys average for debt to equity is 31. Googles debt to equity average is 28. This means that there is 28 cents of debt for every dollar of equity. The lower number is more favorable bec ause it means that thecompany depends less on external lenders. The industrys profit margin average was 18%. Googles profit margin average over the course of the past three years was 23%. This shows that compared to most of its competitors, it is generating more of a profit. A companys beta measures the companys volatility in the stock market. A companys beta depends on how much the company fluctuates within the market. The stock market itself has a beta of 1.0 (McClure, 2012). Anything above 1.0 is considered risky. Anything below 1.0 is considered more stable.According to Yahoo Finance, Google has a beta of 1.14. This means it is 14% above the stock market average and is considered a risky investment. Though the company is considered risky, it has the potential for high returns. The downfall of betas is that they only calculate what happened in the past. Its assessment does not calculate for the future of the company.RecommendationsDespite the market risk of the technology based c ompany, Google has shown appendage over the past year. So far the product is generating a lot of attention with the public. Google is also working on the driverless car, Google Contacts, Project Loom, Google Fiber, and the Google Home Automation. Google is expanding their spectrum from a search engine and mobile apps to automobiles, health care, the internet, and home security. All of these projects show a promising future for the company. For an aggressive investor who does not mind investing in a risky company and is looking to invest for the long-term, Google is a good investment to have. The company has seen a consistent increase in growth and has shown financial stability over the years. Pit Bull Law In Ontario Essay

The contradict atomic number 29 justice is a touch and go law, it is one of those laws that doesnt get enforced until this cover actually does something that would get it tutelage of the constabulary, in which racing shell they would call in your hellhole bullshit away from you and put it down. Most people blame the self-aggrandising reputation of pit bulls on self-aggrandising owners, Pit bulls have been known as deleterious red hots since criminals started adopting them in the 70s-80s and using them in illegal dog fights and self defense dogs to nurse drugs and money usually, pit bulls are very intimidating dogs thats why they where chosen for all this stuff. Tons of sources and people all pronounce that pit bulls relieve oneself amazing family dogs, numerous people say that the key to a good dog is a good and loving owner, and make a great family dog that are good with kids and other animals only if trained right. The law is also hurting people too, there are a lot of pit bull breeders that are now not legally aloud to breed the only breed they know how to breed which is a violation of there rights. The government vernacular make you get rid of a pit bull you already own exactly there are very strict guidelines as to call back care and keep these dogs away from society. The bill should be appealed, all dogs bite. Just these dogs need special attention just like every other dog to be a good dog.First of all the big reason why there is a ban on pit bull do and ownership of pit bulls is because of the bad reputation that they have accumulated over the past 40 or so years one of the first uses of the pit bull was to fight bears and bulls and stuff and people used that as entertainment, after that got banned for being rules as cruel to animals they came up with a new playfulness for the dogs which was to pin them up against each other in a pit for a fight to the death and people would bid money on the winners and electroshock therapy the dog s where bred to kill. But it was made very illegal very fast and banned in all 52 states and Canada. That breed was very dangerous, but since the 80s making that killer breed was illegal so that pure killing machine isnt really around anymore but you cant take it all out of the gene, but it can be easily controlled with proper training and a loving owner. But thats not always the case bad people do get there hands on these dogs to often and treat them with no respect, love or care and give bustt them proper obedience training. Many of the pit bull attacks are due to a skyrocketing number of poorly bred and badly trained dogs raised by backyard breeders, who are trying to cash in on the pit bulls growing reputation as a cheap, but deadly efficacious guard dog, particularly in urban areas. This is a quote from The Houston Chronicle placing the blame almost solely on the humans. Before the 80s pit bull attacks where almost unheard of in fact there where an American icon along with bul l dogs. Pit bulls where used on military neb for the first world war and in other posters, the pit bull was in a lot of households across America. The second topic would be how this law in Ontario has affected peoples jobs in breeding. Because of the new law breeders that have perfected there breed and only have knowledge in the pit bull breed, now that that has been taken away from them it is violating there rights as people, they have been stripped of there jobs because of an unfair law that has no reason to blush be a law. Ontario breeders argue the ban violates breeders constitutional rights. Hundreds of supporters of pit bull-type dogs gathered in front of the provincial legislature to protest.Other supporters, including the American Staffordshire Club of Canada, say that Ontarios law is so vague and unscientific that it will affect many animals that shouldnt be banned. In a widely reported case, Toronto police fired more than a dozen bullets into two pit bulls that had turned on the man who was walking them as a favor for a friend. In another in London, Ont., a woman and her seven-year-old son watched in horror as a pit bull latched onto her husbands arm as he tried to keep the family puppy out of the dogs reach. While some breeders are fighting the ban, others are leaving the province.Pit bulls arent really an identifiable breed, added Hillier, so the law only provides a physical translation of dogs, which he said could be applied to many breeds. The vague description of pit bulls in the legislation which speaks of broad shoulders, short hair and a wide forehead Pit bull bans are ridiculous and cruel, she added, and have already been lifted in other provinces, many U.S. states and countries around the world. Everyone knows its the deed, not the breed, thats the problem. We know that German shepherds, we know that Labrador retrievers, we know that Chihuahuas are as unfastened of biting, or more clear of biting, as so-called pit bulls. What is trying to be said here is that there is no actually law on the breed of pit bulls its just a description and a very vague one at that, This law is very un organized, pit bulls are acquire shipped out of Ontario and being pit down even when there not full pit bulls, they are mixes that fit the description. The original Bill 132 was passed on bound 1, 2005, and received Royal Assent on March 9, 2005.The Bill prohibits individuals from owning, breeding, transferring, importing or abandoning pit bulls. Now that its 2012 the law has almost been considered being lifted exclusively it has in other provinces, Ontario is basically the only province that has not lifted it in Canada, and hopefully they let up soon, its unfair to all the breeders and pit bull lovers out there. In conclusion the Pit Bull has had a bad reputation since the mid 19 hundreds between the illegal dog fights and all the gangsters and awful breeders using these dogs for attack dogs and to protect drugs, and money, and for i ntimidation, and ect. But truth is that killer breed has been gone for awhile now, its basically just mixes out there from bad breeders with bad owners, there is no such thing as a bad dog, every dog is capable of biting and being viscous, the pit bull is capable of being a good dog, pit bull owners all say, there dog is great with there kids and family and even strangers, other dogs are touchy but can be contained with proper training. Also it putting good breeders out of a job is unfair because they can be breeding great dogs not even the killer ones. It violates their rights and they have been fighting for them back since 2005. The Law is cruel and unusual and should be lifted.Work Cited1.Arland Kent, pit bulls fighting there historical bad rep, April 2010, www.streetdirectory.com2. Helping Children with Learning Disabilities Essay

Children with study disabilities atomic number 18 smart or smarter than their peers, save may have difficulty with things analogous reading, writing, reasoning, and organizing information by themselves. A learning handicap is a lifelong issue that cannot be cured or fixed with a snap of the fingers. Children who have the right support and intervention can espouse in check. Then later they will be able to go and be successful later in life. Children with learning disabilities need the support of p atomic number 18nts, school and their community to be successful.Parents need to be able to encourage barbarianren with their strengths, k at one time what their weaknesses are, and be able to understand the educational system to be able to run short with professionals. Learning Disabilities cannot be categorized into one diagnosis. Learning disabilities are caused by biological factors that are caused by differences in the structure and functioning of the nervous system. more peop le, both in the local and professional community, use the terms handicap and disability interchangeably, but they are not.A learning disability means that preschoolers are unable to complete tasks in a certain way. Children with learning disabilities have a hard time functioning in areas such as sensory, physical, cognitive, and opposite areas. Handicap means that preschoolers are unable to function and cope in their environment. These boorren have impairments such as cerebral palsy or down syndrome. In 1991, the federal g everyplacenment amended the disabilities label to Individuals with Disabilities Act (PL 102-119).This act allowed states to be able to not identify with one of the thirteen federal disability labels, but to classify preschoolers with special necessitate. (Kilgo, pg 27) With the new changes professionals were able to use new terms like developmentally delayed and at risk when identifying children. Developmentally delayed is inflexible on the basis of various de velopmental assessments and/or an informed clinical opinion. Children starting at the age of three years old can now be identified for function. Delays can be expressed in a difference amongst a childs chronological age and his/her procedure levels.Delays occur when a child does not reach his/her developmental milestones at the expected age level or time. If a child is slightly shadow it is not considered a delay until he/she are lagging in two or more areas of motor, language, social or thinking skills. Developmental delays are usually diagnosed by a doctor or medical professional based on strict guidelines and take more than one visit to diagnose. Parents or childcare stomachrs are usually the commencement ceremony to notice children not progressing at the same rate as other children. Testing will help to pretend a childs developmental level. At risk describes children with exposure to certain adverse conditions and circumstances known to have a high hazard of resulting in learning and development difficulties? (Kilgo, pg 28) These children have not been identified as having a disability, but as children who may be developing conditions that will marge their success in school or lead to disabilities. There are three factors that can result in a childs environment. The first is established risk/genetic. This could be where a child is born with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or spinal bifida.Biological risk means that a child has a history of pre- or post- natal conditions that heighten the chance of development. These could be conditions such as premature births, infants with low birth weights, maternal diabetes, and bacterial infections like meningitis or HIV. Environmental risks are considered biologically typical, meaning they are environmental conditions that are limiting or threating to the childs development. All three at risk factors can result in cognitive, social, affective, and physical problems. (Kim, pg. 4) Some signs of learning disabilit ies in young children are A toddler may reach developmental milestones quite slowly. The child may have trouble ground the concept of time. Is the child confused by the use of words like tomorrow, immediately, and yesterday? Young children have a lot of energy, but some have an excessive amount of kinetic energy, known as hyperactivity. A child that has difficulty distinguishing right from left may have difficulty identifying words. A child with a learning disability often masters several areas, eyepatch failing in two or more areas.A child that is perceived as disobedient may actually have difficulty understanding and following instructions. Once a child has been identified as having a possible learning disability, assessments need to be completed. An assessment is the process of gathering information for the purpose of making a decision about children with known or suspected disabilities in the area of screening, diagnosis, eligibility, program planning, and/or process moni toring and evaluation. (Kilo, pg. 90)During the assessment, evaluations should be accomplished with the e goal of identifying developmentally ppropriate goals, identifying unique styles and strengths, looking at parent goals and outcomes for their children, reinforcing familys competence and worth, and creating a sense of shared commitment between families, schools, and professionals. Families possess a wealth of information and should play a very active role in the decision making, planning, and evaluations of their children. Schools are need to foster a childs education, offering and supporting the needs of each child through a series of individualized instructions and interventions.School districts must provide documentation stating that the student has received the required instruction by qualified personnel. These interventions help teachers and staff to educate and foster the needs of children with learning disabilities. Assessments are an current process. The initial assess ment should be used to screen, diagnose, and check for eligibility for function. Ongoing assessments are to focus on a childs skill level, needs, background, experiences, and interests, as intimately as the familys preferences and priorities.Over the years practice has shown that there is a link between assessments and curriculum to provide for the needs of the child. It is important to keep records of a childs progress. A very useful way is through portfolio assessments. These portfolios can be considered a looking glass into a childs growth. Portfolios also help teachers and team members to keep observations and comments about a childs activities and behaviors. The information collected can help meet many of the required criteria for planning and monitoring. An important responsibility of an educator is to have an environment that will both nurture and foster learning. When designing an environment childcare providers should use surmount practice guidelines from places like Nati onal Association of Education of Young Child (NAEYC) and National Association of Family Childcare (NAFCC). Environments should look at available space, age of children, visual appeal, safety and health, and organization. (Perri Klass, pg. 46) Always remember that environments exert powerful influences on children and help to play a vital role in childrens lives.Activity areas should admit gross- motor, quiet/calm, discover, dramatic, therapeutic, and arts and crafts areas. Rooms should not have furniture that is used to separate centers or activities but should use things like lower lightening, parachutes hanging from the hood and area rugs to help children understand the use of different centers. The main goal of childcare providers and educators is to provide the best possible services for children with learning disabilities by providing services as early and comprehensively as possible in the least restrictive setting.Services and interventions should be supported in the most inwrought environments that will include the childs primary care giver. Individual Education Plans (IEP) plays a large role in the education process of children with learning disabilities. These IEPs require professionals, parents, and caregivers to work together as a team. They hold teams to accountability standards for the care of children with disabilities. A childs IEP helps to furnish an instructional direction, pattern of like a blueprint of care, to measure the effectiveness and progress of children. If an IEP is carefully written and appropriate goals are set, it will provide special education services to a child that will be reflected throughout his/her life. In the field of early childhood education, the definition of special needs has drastically changed for children with learning disabilities over the years. We live in a very diverse society of languages, foods, music, values and religious beliefs that brings us the strengths of our nation.Every day the makeup of our so ciety changes and so does the needs of our children, especially those of children with learning disabilities. Our community is seeing a growing need for services for children with learning disabilities. Young children with learning disabilities need to receive services at the earliest age possible. Parents need to remember that learning disabilities do not go away overnight and for some children it takes years of recognizing, expressing, thinking, and problem solving to keep an eye on at being the young adult that they are meant to be.

Best Day Ever Essay

Brandon, I just dont think its wise of you to interpret your simple machine your freshman family of college, my mother state every time we passed a state. My mom and I had been taking flexs driving a car my beginner bought me in Texas back to Georgia. . Although I would have loved to spend my Saturday with friends back at home, driving my new car from Texas to Georgia on a Saturday wasnt that bad. I was just so determined to show strike my brand new silver 2010 Toyota Camry LE, I didnt care what anyone said because that car was access with me to Valdosta State University fall of 2012.I woke up on Sunday anxious to drive my car to church and show it off to all my friends. I was mum a bit tired from the night in front, after driving all day and downloading tons of songs to add to my playlist that was entitled Toyota Tunes. Brandon, while youre in church, I want you to pray and ask God what you think you should do with your car, my mother said towards my closed door while I was get dressed. Okay, Mom, however my mind is pretty much made up, I replied instantly. After I finished getting dressing, I waited for my mother in my car to finish getting dressed in the house. Being behind the wheel of your first car is one of those capturing moments many people get to feel at least in one case in their life. All I could think about while awaiting my mothers arrival was all the friends Id have in college with my peaceful car. I had visions of girls way out of my league not liking me for who I was, but for what I drove. And for the funniest reason, I was content with that.As I pulled out of the driveway, my tenderness began to race and my fingers started to sweat from the grip I had on my steering wheel. Nothing had ever felt so sweet than to watch my neighbors look at me after getting their Sunday paper and see whose car it was I was driving. I want you to advance the morning prayer in your new car, my mom said after turning down the gospel music she had blast ing through my speakers. The morning prayer was something my mother and I would do whenever she would drop me off at school or another morning activity. It was also our way of airing out any dirty laundry we had with each other by verbal expression our problems aloud to God and whoever else was around to listen.Alright mom, Ill pray. Dear Heavenly Father, I come before you today asking for your protection through these highways and streets. I also pray that you can give my mother an ease of mind and let her k without delay that I will be safe my freshman year with my car. She should have nothing to worry about because she should believe that You will protect me every mile I drive no matter where I drive. If she doesnt believe that, then maybe thats something You and her should discuss. In Jesus name, Amen. Amen, she said in an unpleasant manner. Disobeying your mother is not of God, Brandon, she said when we pulled up to the church , however this is your car and youre a grown man. Just dont be surprised if God gives you a sign specializeing you that you should listen to me on this one. After church, I told my mom that I would take her home, pick up some friends and hang out at one of my good friends house for a bit. How long will you be out? Because you leave for school in three days and there are still a lot of things you take up to do before you go. Ill be back by ten, I promise, I said as I grabbed my keys off the counter to get my friends. This would now be my official first time driving my car alone. This was the moment Ive been awaiting since my father first told me he bought a car for me fresh off the lot in cash. My mother waived at me from the window shaking her head. You ever get that feeling that something is about to happen, but you dont know what it is. With a very strange gut feeling beginning to occur, I waived back to my mom while wiping the sweat off my hand Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve was my first song of choice. The song is actually about 6 minutes, which is about as long as it took for me to get to my friend Marquells house. capture outside. Im right around the corner, I told him over the phone, not mentioning my new car. When he came outside, the look on his face was priceless. So this was the little something your papa got you for graduation? The minute he climbed into the passenger seat, he instantly turned my radio to his Sunday easy listening channel he would always turn to in his beat up Camero. On our way to my friend Diamonds house, she called me and asked if we could pick up some snacks for the movie we were going to watch when we got to her house. On my way to the store with my friend Marquell, we had the most intellectual conversation on which television shows expanded our minds the most when we were children. I dont care what you say, Marquell said with confidence, If it wasnt for Captain Planet, I wouldnt be the eco-friendly man I am today. Maybe if you watched more Captain Planet and less Hey A rthur, you wouldnt have all these air fresheners in your car polluting the Earth. We both took a little time to acknowledge all the Hawaiian Breeze air cleansers I had dangling from my rear-view mirror, as we were approaching a stop light. But you cant tell me my ride doesnt smell like pineapples and happiness though, I said to cut the lighthearted tension me and my best friend created. As we pulled into the bet of the gas station to get snacks, an old lady behind me honked her horn, attempting to tell me to clear the tail of my car into the parking space so she could get passed. The minute I tapped on the gas pedal, little did I know that my built-in outlook on life would change. That was that moment that I got that explanation for that gut feeling. My car had gone into an instant throttle, running clear into the curb in front of me. Oh shit, bruh, my friend Marquell said in disbelief, I think you fucked something up. We stared at each other for a moment, not believing the careless mistake I made. The hit happened on the passenger side, so when Marquell got out the car, he was the first one to see the impact damage. When he jumped out the car and looked at my bumper, the face he made at the damage superseded the face he made when he saw my car the first time. Tell me its not that bad amuse I said at the top of my lungs. I could tell it was already bad by seeing pink fluid running underneath my car when I got out.I honestly dont think there is enough paper in the world to write the words of unhappiness that flowed from my brim like an eruption of every foul term I could fathom There was a huge fracture in the middle of the bumper which effected the halt fluid tank to rip open. This also affected the radiator tank, as well. The first person I called was my father to let him know what happened. After that, I called the mechanic he connected me with. The last call I had to make was to my mother, to ask her to come pick me and my friend, Marquell up. This pho ne call was even harder to make than to my father. The phone single rang once followed by my mothers voice saying in a subtle tone, Before you say anything, know that I told you so before you left

Cross Cultural Communication Essay

A country that was annexed by some other country is sure to have exchange or been impacted culturally and in many other aspects. An excellent example of this could be the British India. India was ruled over by Britishers for just round 350 years. Therefore, many traits and systems in India today atomic number 18 derived from the time they were downstairs the British rule. One of the most vivid illustrations of this is the schooling system and English as a average language for teaching and learning. The number of English speakers in India is more than 125 million bulk (Indiaspeaks, 2010).Analyzing from the interpret of Hofstedes cross cultural dimensions of India and England, it is catch that both countries rank closely in two dimensions which argon Masculinity and Uncertainty Avoidance. In terms of masculinity, both countries especially India, rank rattling closely to the unbiassed point. India scored 56 and United Kingdom scored 66. Even though India scored very close to the mid range, it actually is a very masculine country specially in terms of displaying success and federal agency (India, n.d.).However, India is also a country with ancient spiritual history which involves richness of culture and traditions that were shaped by its main trust i.e., Hinduism. This often reigns in people from indulging in Masculine displays to the extent that they might be disposed(p) to (India, n.d.). As for Britain, it is considered a masculine culture. Nevertheless, there is confusion among foreigners as to how can English people place modesty and understatement and at the same time be gameyly success driven (United Kingdom, n.d.). India scored 40 on Uncertainty Avoidance which means that the country has a medium low preference for avoiding uncertainty. It is repayable to the perception that nothing has to be perfect nor has to go exactly as planned. Indian scored 77 whereas the UK scored only 35. India is strictly a large power distant order of magnitude where hierarchy is appreciated and accepted. In this kind of golf-club, inequality and centralization of power prevail. Privileges and status symbols argon popular. People with no power or younger are not all owed to have a voice. Parents teach children obedience and children ought to treat parents with applaud (Hofstede, n.d.) .Teachers are considered as gurus as well. An illustration of this can be seen from the ancient history of India where Gurus taught everything, right from academician to wisdom, to children and groomed them to be good human beings. In terms of craft, subordinates are usually not consulted during decision-making. However, they expect to be told what to do. An ideal boss is a benevolent autocrat or good father (Hofstede, n.d.).The UK is a small power distance society. It is interesting to see Britain among one of the small power distance societies as Britain has a rich culture and heritage as well as the monarchy system where there are princes and princesses in the society. In small power distance like Britain, inequalities are minimized. Parents and children treat one another as equals. Teachers are experts who transfer academic knowledge and not life virtues. A n ideal boss is a resourceful democrat who consults his subordinates while making any decision. other dimension where both countries differ greatly in terms of their scores is Individuality. It is the degree of interdependence a society maintains among its members. It has to do with whether peoples self-image is defined as I or We (Hofstede, n.d.). India scored 48, therefore, it is a collectivistic society whereas Britain scored 89 which makes it a clear individualistic society. In collectivistic society, there is a high preference for belonging where individuals are pass judgment to act in accordance with what other members of the group expect one to do. Behaviors and actions of people in this society are highly influenced by opinions of their family, relatives and members of their social network group. In contrast, in individualistic society, people are supposed to look after themselves and their direct family only (Hofstede, n.d.). British are highly private people, children are taught to think for themselves and make their own goals in life. The path to happiness is believed to be through personal fulfillment. Another interesting aspect of culture was looked into by Deborah Tannen who wrote a support called Languages and Linguistics where he explained a darksome connection between culture and languages and how both are interrelated. One aspect that Tannen stated in his book is about Crosscultural Miscommunication which is about rising and falling chanting. For English, rising intonation means questioning and falling intonation reveals inconsiderateness and indifference which are rude and impolite. Problem arises when business deal or agreement is to take place because this is the most crucial time when contracts are to be signed and both parties definitely do not wish for anything to go wrong. However, just a drop of sound can change almost the whole scenario. It shows that speakers of different cultural backgrounds develop systematically different conven tions for using and interpreting linguistic features (Tannen, 2005). Hence, it is very important for everybody, especially those who work in the service field to recognize this difference and work towards ameliorate it. The last important aspect from Tannens theory is High involvement and High considerateness. Since Indian society is a highly collectivistic society, it is a high involvement society as well. People in the same area will consider their neighbors as their family members. This stands true at the time of crisis people would attain and ask with concern about the story and offer suggestions and aid that they could provide. However, Britain is a private society where people are individualistic. They do not like to impose on other peoples business unless they are related or close to the person. Imposition can be taken as natural or rude in some circumstances. In conclusion, India and British are two completely different cultures that couldnt have had anything in common if British hadnt ruled India. Both countries adopted and overlap some of the good values and characteristics with each other contributing to the development of quality of life and consanguinity between both to prosper. Without Hofstedes dimensions and Tannens theories, cross cultural communication would still be tough and this would hinder growth of business, tourism and cultural sectors of each and every country.ReferenceHofstede, G. But Apple users still do not have better ideas to enjoy the fun of internet with their innovative devices. It could be a challenge for Apple to come up with new ways of enjoying the fun of internet with Apple devices.Figure 2-6 Comparison of Apple-users to non-Apple users on time-spending with computer and TV (Sources The data comes from Apple profile report 2008 )Apple-users are loyal to Apples products. What is more, it has been found that about Apple-users are loyal to products of Apple. These customers who have high income or high educational level help to mark the brand of Apple to have high status in the markets. And these customers love of Apple not only avers brand loyalty of Apple but also attracts more and more customers get in love with Apple.3. Analysis of how Apple builds selling relationship with customers 3.1 Apples brand building with branding Brand has many advantages which companies can take to get closer to customers for more sales including improved perceptions of product performance, greater customer loyalty and increased marketing communication military capability (Keller, 2009).It is well acknowledged that brand has vital importance to a company even to a product or one kind of service.Especially in this fast-changing founding, products are getting to be more identical because of the fierce competition which makes brand to be the difference between various products. Brands help to build uphold relationship with the customers. Strong brands lend endurance and performance to an organization and protect it from the market turbulence and uncertainties (Kapoor & Kulshrestha, 2011). In addition, brand gives customers a sense of reliance even makes them feel a better quality of life. Brands make meanings that become conventionally undersas welld and shared across interpretive communities. (Holt, 2010, McCracken, 1996, and Kats, 2006 etc). The brand concept of Apple is speak up different which has last for over 30 years. From the creative and innovative products like iPod, iPad and iPhone, Apple of all time brings customers rage and defines how to think different. In addition, Apple pursues to build a humanistic corporate cult ure with a strong corporate atmosphere to inspire employees to work voluntarily which can leave good motion-picture show on customers (Kahney, 2012). The far-famed global brand consultancy Interbrand which aims at creating and managing brand measure out released 2012 Best Global Brands list, Apple jumps into the ranking 2 in the world, and the brand value growth is 129%. The brand of Apple has been a miracle in the global world. How dose the brand of Apple grow so quickly in the contemporary society? The following part will investigate this problem. The first step of is to get the customers attention. The advertisement of Apple has always maintained surprise which arouse the attention of customers. Since Steve Jobs returned Apple, the first release of iMac, either the video or the outdoor(prenominal) propaganda is featured with characteristic of Apple which makes the brand of Apple unique. Al Ries and Jack Trout pointed out in the disc of The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketingin 199 4 that if an enterprise can not be the first in the consumers choices in the industry, then the best way is to create a new category to attract consumers. And the reverse gear Law pointed that to occupy the minds ofconsumers as the second best choices the brand communication strategy is not to try to go beyond the first, but to be different. In the early eighties, Apple is trying to argue with the industry leader-IBM and then rapidly gain the attention of consumers. through the long advertising campaign, such as 1984and Think different, Apple has create the spirit of innovation and fearless which brings the concept of the brand. Later with the packaging of iPhone and iPad, the advertisement of Apple bulked to snap on elite people. The people who use Apples products in the advertisement are usually well educated and pursue a higher quality of life. Through these advertisements, the brand of Apple has been positioned as elite and high quality of life. With customers attention, th ey are interested in the product of Apple and have the desire to buy the product. The productions of Apples products are tools for those who are ambitious and lusty to change the world. To conclude, through segmenting the targeting markets, Apple finds its own position and its target or potential customers. Products like iPhone, iPad, iMac are innovative and fashion which are favored by those who have high income with professions or those who are pursue fashions. To them, Apples products are unique and innovative. By meeting customers demands and satisfying their psychological needs, Apple has built its branding and gradually makes the brand purposeful and attractive, thus making the brand of Apple world-famous.3.2 Building marketing relationship with branding and customer profile Marketing relationship is a process including identifying target or potential customers, establishing relationship with them, maintaining these customers and finally enhancing relationships with them (G ronroos, 1997). And in order to build marketing relationship with customers, it is of great importance to know better about customer relationship management. Customer relationship marketing is to maintain brand loyalty and stimulate repeat and even more purchases of customers (Murdy & Pike, 2012). Kumar (2010) pointed out that customer relationship management is the strategic process of targeting the important customers and provide them with well-considered services to shape the relationship between a company and these customers. The closing of the marketing relationship of customers is to optimize the interest of the customers and satisfy their needs. What is more, Taleghani,Vhirani and Mirrashed have mentioned in 2011 that the strategy of relationship marketing is based on creating, developing and maintaining relationships with customers. Through the brand building, Apple gradually establishes marketing relationship with customers. Customers start to pay attention to products of A pple and they are quite satisfied with these products. And with the brand being more meaningful and inspiring, customers are impressed with positive brand images of Apple. Gradually the brand of Apple has been identical for customers which help Apple to build the first step of marketing relationship with customers. And the second step for marketing relationship building is achieved by collecting customer profiles. Apple takes advantage of its customer profile to find their target customers, and to maintain brand loyalty.Through the information of customer profile, Apple knows exactly who bought their products, when did they buy the product and how many time did they buy the products. Depending on customer profiles it collects from these downloads of customers, Apple get a better understanding of its customers and can use these information to satisfy customers needs, thus maintaining brand loyalty and providing warm services according to customers needs. In all, the customer profile of Apple provides the knowledge needed to posit its target and potential customers and enable Apple to focus on marketing and branding efforts more effectively which finally help Apple to build marketing relationship with its customers.Thirdly, despite the innovative and amazing products of Apple, it also provides customers with the delicate services which help to enhance marketing relationship with customers. It has been said that Apple has five stages of service including approach, probe, present, listen and end. Do not be manipulated by the machine but to manipulate machine yourself is Apples customer-oriented concept to produce new products. In 2007, one month before the iPhone is officially on sale, Jobs asked developers to switch the phones plastic examine to tempered glass screen. This has solved the problem of the screen be scratched by keys. In addition, the Voiceover helps the blind to use up texts and ever enter information. Apple always stands on the side of customers and think for them. These warm services and Apples caring about customers help Apple maintains brand loyalty of customers. By the three step of establishing the brand of Apple, maintaining the loyalty of customers and enhancing connection betweencustomers, Apple builds the marketing relationship with customers.Although Apples marketing strategies has been quite effective which make the brand of Apple known all around the world. While there still exists both(prenominal) problems in Apples marketing. First of all, Apples marketing is too dependent on the leadership of Jobs Steve. He gives the brand of Apple the name of fashion, innovation and esthetics. Depending on his populace influence, many of his followers guide to buy the products of Apple. With the left of Jobs, the brand of Apple may face some challenges. Secondly, the price of Apple is too high among its competitors. Although most Apples customers are of high income or well educated, the high price of Apple also make App le lose some customers since some other products can satisfy their needs with fair prices. Last but not least, Apple has a big competitor-Samsung. As a latecomer to the mobile phone industry, Samsung has defeated MotorolaNokia and other competitors to become the worlds second largest mobile phone maker. The competition between Apple and Samsung will challenge the brand value of Apple.4. ConclusionTo conclude, brand is of vital importance to a firm or an organization. A strong brand offers reliance for customers and thus becomes a link to maintain customers loyalty. Branding helps to make products different and can choose the target customers. Through branding, Apple builds the brand which establishes the first step of marketing relationship with customers. By collecting customer profiles, Apple knows better about its customers which help Apple to maintain brand loyalty of target customers. In addition, through the delicate services and innovative products, Apple enhances the marketi ng relationship with customers. In all, Apple builds the marketing relationship by three steps including establishing the brand of Apple, maintaining the loyalty of customers and enhancing connection between customers. Although Apple has successfully built its brand and has good relationship with customers, Apple still faces many challenges including the left of its famous leader, the high price of its products and the strong competitors.ReferenceGronroos, Christian. Throwaway Confidential Informants Essay

The article, The Throwaways, by Sarah Stillman, is an account of confidential informants being accustomd as dirt cheap and transfer the record pawns in the drug war. A confidential informant is a person who has been caught for a crime, usually misbranded narcotics, and has been offered to have their slate wiped clean or their punish workforcet reduced if they help break down a higher up criminal. The police treat these informants as if they be no subject else but a tool to catch the criminals at the top of the food chain. The police do not stop to hypothecate that the informants are often productive flock in society, even if they decide to partake drug use. I have a close companion who was asked to be an informant after being busted with salutary a small amount of marijuana. I strongly advised against this for his safety, and my familiarity instead had to spend more or less four thousand dollars on a lawyer. It is unjust and immoral for police officers to use these people with no formal guarantee that their charges will be dropped, as well as putting them in super dangerous situations. The Throwaways is an article ab pop four young confidential informants who had their lives cut short because they decided to encourage with law enforcement and help bust drug dealers. Every single informants fate take 6 feet underground. Rachel Hoffman was a twenty-three year old girl who had plans to go to culinary school and throw a new type of rehabilitation center. Rachel was found dead the next day fifty miles from where the apprehends were alleged(a) to be tracking her every move. Lebron Gaither testified against a man in court and was then ordered to leaven and buy narcotics from the same man he had just testified against he was tortured, shot with a handgun as well as a shotgun, ran over by a car, and then dragged by a chain into the woods. Shelly Hilliard was caught with a half troy ounce of pot, threatened with prison, and agree to be an informant.Hi lliards body was found on fire beneath a mattress on a service road. The last informant in the article, Jeremy Mclean, agreed to be an informant because he did not want to bring disgrace to his family name. The police continued to relieve aceself Jeremy bust drug dealers until he helped lead to the arrest of a heroin trafficker. The officers said that the heroin trafficker, William Vance Reagan, Jr., was upright and not to worry. Reagan shot Jeremy in the back of the neck 3 times and once in the face. He was sentenced to life in prison with pop parole (Stillman). Narcotics officers use informantsas a disposable tool to take up to people, or places that they cannot croak to alone. According to the article, over eighty percent of drug busts involve informants (Stillman 38). There are usually no contracts and the informants have to trust that the officers will keep their word. I think that this is insane and it endangers the lives of mostly young people who have their entire life ahead of them.At the time, the opportunity to be a confidential informant and having all of their charges dropped seems like a better option than time in fling or huge fines. It is too dangerous to bust a drug dealer. The word would get out that they got arrested, and the informant would be the issuing one suspect. I have a close friend who was locoweed pot at a Wiz Khalifa concert in his car before going in, because he had been told that there were cops inside and that the security guards depended you before you went in. While smoking he saw two men walking up by his car, one a big strong white man and the some other a smaller African American man. As they walked past his car, he took a sip of his deglutition because his throat burned slightly from the smoke. The two men saw him do this, pointed at his car and walked off. My friend felt that something was wrong because of the way they pointed at the car, so he got out to go into the concert. The next thing he knew, both of th ose men had chased him down and were interrogating him about what he had been inebriety. He did not go out stoned, because he had put in eye drops and said he wasnt drinking anything but a coke. The men pulled out their badges and fifteen other cops circled around him. They reached in his pocket, took out his keys and unlawfully searched his car, because he had been seen drinking a coke. When they found marijuana in the car, they were surprised. They didnt read him his Miranda rights nor have probable cause to search the car. The smaller African American man asked my friend to step aside and asked him if he knew where he could get an ounce or more of pot. He said yes and then he offered for him to be an informant, he gave him his number and said to call him J. The man said that this is how it would go down if he agreed J would own my friend money and he would walk in and buy a gram of pot, walk out and give J the marijuana. Then a couple days later he would have to embark J to th e dealers and they would both buy some marijuana. Then J would attempt to get over an ounce of pot. After a couple weeks passed, the police would come to the dealers house and arrest him. My friend could have had his charges dropped completely. Although he could havealso ended up like Jeremy and perform more perplex operations, or even worse dead. There are no contracts, it is completely based on the cops word and that is a huge problem. You never fill in what could set a person off and make them mad enough to kill you. For example in a neighborhood near tap a drug dealer shot and killed four teenagers because they did not pay him for two grams of weed worth(predicate) forty dollars. I think that using confidential informants at all should be outlawed collectible to the excessive risk in every situation, but I am very biased because of my friend. The modern law regarding informants requires special training for the officers, the informants age and emotional state to be conside red, and for the level of risk to be taken into account.(Stillman 47) There are still no real guidelines, just authoritative things that the officers must consider. There either needs to be much more strict guidelines, such as the informant must be a legal adult, or the use of confidential informants should be make completely illegal. The tragic stories that are presented in this article should be enough for anyone with a conscience to know that the use of informants is wrong. The police use informants as a cheap way to bust dealers by scaring the people into cooperating. I have a personal experience in my life that impacts my opinion on the use of informants. My friend could have been killed while doing the law enforcements dirty work, because he decided to smoke a small amount of marijuana. The decision to become a confidential informant should not be one of the last decisions a person must make in his or her life. It should be completely illegal for trained police officers to end anger the lives of citizens by offering them to be an informant. I believe police officers should value and serve, that means not aiding the deaths of ordinary people.Works CitedStillman, Sarah. Re The Throwaways. New Yorker. N.p., 17 Sept. 2012.
